Find the true sources of friction

Map each step from initial registration to account readiness. Measure where applicants abandon the process, where documents are repeatedly requested, which fields trigger errors, and how long manual review takes. Avoid removing controls simply because they add a step.

Explain requirements in context

Use plain language, clear file guidance and immediate validation. Save progress where permitted, distinguish required from optional information and explain what happens after submission. Support teams should see the same workflow state that the applicant sees.

  • Validate field formats as information is entered
  • Provide clear and accessible error messages
  • Avoid asking twice for available verified information
  • Track review queues and escalation age
  • Keep sensitive documents access-controlled
  • Test the workflow on smaller screens

Measure both experience and control quality

Monitor completion rate, time to complete, manual-review time, correction rate, duplicate records and control exceptions together. A higher conversion rate is not a win if review quality or record integrity declines.

The best onboarding experience makes the required process understandable, predictable and proportionate.
