The Modern Brokerage Infrastructure Checklist

A practical framework for evaluating the technical foundations behind a resilient brokerage.

Start with operating requirements, not a vendor list

A strong brokerage stack starts with the business model: target markets, expected active accounts, trading sessions, asset classes, liquidity relationships, support coverage and regulatory obligations. Those choices determine the infrastructure that will be needed.

Map the critical path

Document how an order moves from the client terminal through the bridge or liquidity layer, risk controls, execution venue and back to the client. Include market data, account updates, reporting, monitoring and disaster recovery. The map should identify each dependency and the team accountable for it.

  • Capacity and latency objectives
  • Trading platform and bridge ownership
  • Liquidity-provider connectivity and failover
  • Identity, access controls and audit trails
  • Monitoring, escalation and incident response
  • Backup, recovery and tested rollback

Test failure modes before launch

A system is not ready because the happy path works. Test a disconnected liquidity session, delayed prices, a full disk, expired credentials, overloaded reporting, and the loss of a primary node. Record recovery objectives and confirm that operators can execute the runbook under pressure.

The best infrastructure is not the most complicated one. It is the smallest system that meets the brokerage’s measurable operational, security and growth requirements.
